Yup, this one was written about a young woman I dated in the '70s and that's about all I should probably say about that....I played it for her once and she questioned the line about love being in vain....so it goes, and so it was...although, I can't say either of us was in love.

Lyrics

"An Autumn Play"
by Rick Landers (c) 1977

An Autumn play
Across your bed we lay
Tennis shoes
birthday cake and winter blues

You are the ocean
and I am the sky
You are desire
and I want to fly you

A midnight walk
November's chill we stopped to talk
Paper plane
without a care now down in flames
Love's in vain

You are the ocean
and I am the sky
You are desire
and I want to fly you

All the years we've tasted
Now they seem so wasted
Your smile is running back
I'd catch it if I could

And here we stand
You walk away
like it was planned

Our ship has sailed
caught in a storm
caught in a gale
Love has failed

You are the ocean
and I am the sky
You are desire
and I want to fly you
I want to fly you
I want to fly you
