Noodling around with this for nearly a year before I sat down and started writing lyrics and got a hook and went for it....thinking this might end up jazzy; sax; piano; bass; percussion; congas; tympani (quietly), low in the mix keyboards or a hint of concertina, harmonium, or accordion (French sounding)....lush harmonies...not quite haunting and maybe ocean waves in the fade....the blue theme here was inspired by the use of the word "blue" in Tim Buckley's songs, and Lee Underwood, his lead guitarist's book about Tim, "Blue Melody Remembered."
Lyrics
"Blue World" (Hat's Off To Tim Buckley"
Music and lyrics (3/B): (c) Rick Landers 2023
She said she was leaving
in a sing song C'est la vie
I found a hidden note from Moulin Rouge
in Gay Paree
She said she'd live in France, work the bars
and high kick dance
It's a blue, blue, blue, blue world (2x)
She said we'd run our course
our love's in disrepair
She needed time alone
Maybe just a year
I told her I'd follow
She said, "No, one must surely stay."
It's a blue, blue, blue, blue world (2x)
It's a blue, blue, blue, blue, blue, blue, blue, blue world
(Instrumental Break)
I wrote a thousand letters
How I didn't understand
How I hadn't realized I'd been dealt
a trouble hand
I never heard a word
Her voice cold frozen true
so much for a girl...a girl so blue
It's a blue, blue, blue, blue world (2x)
It's a blue, blue, blue, blue, blue, blue, blue, blue world
She finally came back home
speaking in a foreign tongue
She surrounds us in a blanket
Our trinity now safe and warm
Her transatlantic voyage was so long and douloureux
She smiles gives me a kiss
Says forever we will do
Gives me a kiss
Smiles, a rhapsody in blue
It's a blue blue blue blue world (2x)
It's a blue, blue, blue, blue, blue, blue, blue, blue world (fade out)
