This song follows a parent watching a daughter grow up to become an aviator. I always think of Amelia Earhart's well-known photo of her standing on the wing of her aircraft.
Lyrics
"Angel on the Wing" (3/B Flat)
By: Rick Landers (c) 2021
(G) She was my child
I (C) told her she could (Bm) be anything (D)
a (C) pilot or an (Bm) acrobat with (D) wings
(C) She could be (G) anything she (D) dreamed
Oh me, oh my (G)
I (C) watched her paint the (Bm) moon, the stars
and (D) sky
Like (C) Van Gogh's (Bm) Starry-Starry (D) Night
Her (C) mind an (Bm) extraordinary (D) flight
And there she (G) stood
she'd (C) tumble then she'd (Bm) bike our neighborhood (D)
Her (C) boundaries ill-de (Bm) fined
up to no (D) good
She held onto her (C) dreams (G) so (D) high
I (C) hung them on our (G) walls when colors (D) dried
They (C) let me in her (G) mind so I could (D) see
the (C) beauty of (G) her own reality (D)
(Instrumental break) (C-G-D-C-G-D-C-Bm-D)
She turned (G) thirteen
Assured (C) me that she (Bm) knew much more than (D) me
When I (C) tried to (D) explain, her (C) mind would simply (G) fly away (D)
She met a (G) boy
She (C) told me that his (Bm) name was (D) Major Tom
(C) Every time he'd (Bm) sing, she'd sing along (D)
Her (C) heart was torn (G) apart when he moved (D) on
She held her (C) dreams (G) so (D) high
I (C) hung them on our (G) walls when colors (D) dried
They (C) let me in her (G) mind so I could (D) see
the (C) bounty of (G) her humanity (D)
I'd watch her (G) fly
She'd (C) swoop turning (Bm) loops up in the (D) sky
(C) Sometimes call my (Bm) name
while passing (D) low
then (C) rock her wings (G) at me, before a roll (D)
She held her onto her (C) dreams (G) so (D) high
I (C) hung them on our (G) walls when colors (D) dried
They (C) let me in her (G) mind, so I could (D) sing
About the (C) beauty of my (G) angel on the (D) wing
(C-G-D-C-G-D-C-D)
